How we work…

We want to create spaces that reflect the people that use them, to do this we design by listening and through dialogue. We then develop a brief and this informs the kind of service we can provide for you. We work with the understanding that spaces can and do change and develop over time. Because of this, future proofing the space is at the centre of everything we do with and for the client. The client is at the heart of everything we do, and we know to sustain that approach we can only work across max number of projects…

Architectural Services…

You’re probably wondering what an architectural service is and are not yet familiar with the RIBA work stages that architects work to. RIBA work stages describe the life of the project from start to finish and include the involvement of the architect, structural engineer and builder. These stages also describe where and when planning and building control will happen. Architects’ fees tend to be structured in accordance with these work stages; this allows you full control to determine the level of your architect’s involvement in the project. Obviously this can adapt and change as the project evolves; sometimes a fee can be changed on a percentage basis or as a lump sum. The service we provide and fees structure can be tailored to meet your needs.

What we do….

Like most people you’re probably unsure of what’s involved when you want to carry out building work to your home or property. Speaking with us early on can be useful in deciding what is possible and what isn’t.

The work that we do involves helping you, through design to understand the possibilities of your home. This can range from a redesigning a small bathroom in your home to an actual new home!

As well as designing your project with you, we will advise and guide you through the processes involved.

Concept design…

Do you sometimes feel that your home isn’t working the way you want it to? Do you think it could flow better for your needs? Starting a conversation with us can give your insight in what different changes might involve and what is possible.

Your first point of contact will probably be a phone call and a site visit. Don’t worry if you’re not entirely sure of what you want, this is where we begin to formulate a brief. This initial point of contact is free of charge.

Our services can be tailored to your individual project and can range from an initial consultation (mini design session), stage appointments or a full architectural service appointment that will cover the project from concept to build. This is where we begin to develop the brief together and figure out your needs, wants and red lines! We bring openness and imagination to this stage, as well as years of expertise, but ultimately it’s your call and we do everything we can to support you to get there.

Planning + Building Regulations…

Now for the boring bit… it’s hard to make the planning and building regulations stage sound more exciting than they are, but they’re essential (most of the time) to any improvement project and, sadly, can take time. As your architect we manage this process and, because we limit the number of projects we work on, we maintain a dialogue with you, letting you know where things are up to and chasing delays on your behalf.

Planning: We can advise if your project requires planning approval and act as the main contact when dealing statutory bodies such as planning departments. You have probably heard of something called Permitted Development we can advise if this is the route you should take once we have developed your brief with you.

Most domestic projects depending on size and nature are subject to this, you will probably also need the help of other consultants such as Structural Engineers. We can advise and assist you through this process.

Moving Forward…

Once planning and building control are achieved there are a few other stages to go through before your project is completed and you can finally enjoy it. Will you need an architect to get through these stages? Not always, as with every stage, we will advise and make suggestions of how best to move forward. These last few stages can involve technical and detail work, specifying materials and administering the contract between you the client and the builder, However not every project is the same so these last few stages can be omitted from our service if required, this is why we break our fees down to each stage.
